Lost and Found
I searched through every pocket and every compartment of every purse I own last night.
Every. Single. Purse. And if you know me or have seen my coat closet, you know that's a lot of purses.
My mission: Find the little blue piece of paper I'd been writing on for over a year, compiling my great ideas for a winter-themed playlist.
It always turns up when I don't need it, and last night, when I finally had the time to put the playlist together and make a CD of it ... no little blue piece of paper.
Actually, there were tons of little blue pieces of paper. Suddenly, everything I had ever written down had been written on a little blue piece of paper. Shopping lists. Notes to pay this or that bill. People's phone numbers. Dates of doctors' appointments.
And it was like I opened up the Black Hole of Missing Things.
Need a Beano? Breath mint? Piece of gum? Check, check and check. Hair ties, headbands, lipstick, over-the-ear thingy for a Bluetooth earpiece ... bobbypins, chapstick, glasses-cleaning cloths, candy canes, flash drives, receipts, receipts, receipts, receipts, business cards, event and attraction ticket stubs, airline boarding passes, lipgloss, Holly's driving directions to Pat's and Geno's in Philly, hair combs, pennies, a dime, a holiday picture greeting card, CDs, Hershey's kisses, paperclips, empty wrappers, a packet of tissues, a pocket-sized Splenda dispenser, a brochure describing Lucy Maud Montgomery's homestead, seashells, hard candies, rocks, a Prince Edward Island keychain, more receipts ... but no playlist.
I searched drawers. I searched boxes. I searched coat pockets, inside books, between sofa cushions, on top of my microwave, inside my gym bag ... nada.
Gave up. Changed the sheets, got ready for bed. Mid-sheet-stretching, I looked at my bookcase ... and there it was. The Missing Playlist. Except (wait for it ... wait for it ...) it wasn't blue.
White.
White!
Ah, well. It's a good CD. Almost worth the search. And I have a bunch more hair ties and bobby pins and lipgloss than I thought I had 24 hours ago. Yay.
