A tank of gas costs as much as/more than:

- A new pair of shoes
- A night's stay at the Super 8/Motel 6/Days Inn/etc. (in the off-season)
- A bouquet of really nice flowers (vase included)
- A month's membership at a gym/recreation center
- A shopping spree at Nu2U
- A night out drinking with friends (walk home included)
- A week's worth of parking fees at one of DIA's long-term parking lots
- All the accessories needed to make a bicycle functional/safe (helmet, headlight, basket, tire pump, taillights, etc.)
- A really nice dinner out (wine included)
- A shopping spree at Barnes & Nobel
- A month's worth of lattes at a coffee shop (for me)
- One week's grocery budget
- A weekend spent skiing

... and more. And I drive a car. Deepest sympathies to those of you who drive larger vehicles.
